Trustees
We are currently seeking Trustees with a strong connection to our Artistic Vision who are excited about joining an organisation that is re-shaping its model as a National Opera company with two creative centers in both London and Greater Manchester.
Welcome
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Trustee of English National Opera. The role of Trustee is essential to ensuring that we fulfil our duties to our beneficiaries and deliver on our vision, mission and values.
This is a truly exciting moment in ENO’s journey. As we continue to evolve as a truly national opera company, rooted in both London and Greater Manchester and reaching audiences both across England and internationally, we are seeking two exceptional individuals to join our Board and help steward the next chapter of ENO’s artistic future.
Working closely with the Chair, Trustees and Executive Leadership Team, these Trustees will bring a deep understanding of artistic excellence, creative practice and the wider cultural landscape. They will support the delivery of ENO’s long-term artistic ambitions under the leadership of our incoming Chief Executive, Helen Shute, together with Artistic Director Annilese Miskimmon and Music Director Designate André de Ridder.
One Trustee will bring a strong background in opera and operatic leadership. The second Trustee may come from the broader arts and cultural ecosystem but will have experience of leading at executive level. We are looking for people who share our belief in the transformative power of opera and the arts, and who are passionate about ENO’s mission to create bold, accessible and world-class artistic experiences for audiences across the country. Whether your experience comes from opera, music, theatre, dance, festivals, the visual arts or another creative discipline, you will bring an independent perspective, strategic judgement and a commitment to helping ENO flourish.
As a Trustee, you will contribute to Board discussions, in particular on the Company’s artistic direction and strategic priorities, acting as both an advocate and a critical friend. You will help ensure ENO remains artistically ambitious, creatively relevant and financially sustainable, while staying true to its purpose as England’s National Opera Company.
These are opportunities to help shape the future of one of the UK’s most distinctive cultural organisations at a defining moment in its history.
Thank you for your interest and we very much look forward to hearing from you.

Louise Jeffreys, Chair
